We Have Decided to Close for the 2020 Season

Sadly, due to the challenges and uncertainty of these times, Ohme Gardens will not be opening this season.

This unprecedented decision was not easily made. Many factors and options were considered. Ultimately it came down to both health and safety concerns related to the pandemic as well as the economic reality.

Ohme Gardens is owned and operated by the County of Chelan with the mission to protect, preserve and enhance the Gardens. Although owned by the County, historically, no tax dollars have gone towards daily maintenance, staffing or operations of the Gardens. For that we rely on admission fees along with wedding & event fees. Over 75% of our visitors come from outside of Chelan and Douglas Counties. With current travel restrictions as well as reduced tourist amenities available in the region, we believe that, if we were to open, our visitor count would be severely curtailed this year. In addition, almost all of our 2020 weddings and events have been cancelled with fees either refunded or applied to future dates. All of this means a drastic reduction in revenue, such that we would not be able to meet our staffing and operating expenses.

And so we have decided to take advantage of this unusual situation and use this time to step up our plans for garden restoration, capital improvements and enhancements throughout the Gardens. We will be undertaking projects that have been in the planning stages for some time and for which capital funding has already been secured. By turning our full attention to these projects now we will be able to have everything completed in time for our grand re-opening next spring and ensure the future of the Gardens for years to come.
